Leave the stress at home in Aguadilla

If you are looking for a carefree weekend escapade, Aguadilla is the place to go. Located on the northwestern region of the island, this seafront town is idyllic for beach lovers. Visiting Crash Boat beach should be on the top of your list due to its captivating turquoise water. There are plenty of water-based activities to choose from including paddle boarding, swimming, snorkeling, or even just floating on the water.

Another must-see attraction is Peña Blanca beach, a small hidden gem, just a 12-minute drive from Crash Boat. Do get there early, as this beach has become increasingly popular, and seating space is limited. The best time to visit Peña Blanca is from late spring and summer (May to August), but depends largely on the tide.

After a long day of enjoying paradise and sunbathing, a night out with great food and drinks is the best way to put a perfect day to bed. The vibrant nightlife throughout Aguadilla’s waterfront has something for everyone.

Rooftop bars and restaurants have become increasingly trendy in Puerto Rico, and Aguadilla is no exception. Sal de Mar Rooftop and Restaurant is highly known in the area, with a stunning view overlooking the town’s bay, it will feel like dining in front of a painting. The menu is diverse, but as you enjoy the coastal lifestyle why not enjoy the catch of the day and the local seafood. Due to its popularity, a reservation will be needed, so don’t forget to call in advance.

If you are looking to get a drink and soak in the warm ocean breeze, you can head over to Aguadilla Rooftop Experience (ARTE), just an 11-minute walk from Sal de Mar through Aguadilla’s boardwalk. While ARTE has food available as well, its wide range of cocktails are something to try, including the variety of “Mules” including Moscow, London, Mexican, Kentucky and Jager.

However, if you are in the mood for a more spirited activity and an instagrammable picture, you can visit the Punta Borinquen lighthouse ruins. Only a 13-minute drive from Peña Blanca beach, the ruins pre-date the Spanish colonial area and are located in the Ramey Air Force Base. There are also hiking trails available for those who are looking to get in some exercise during vacation.

From there you can visit “el avión”, an abandoned airplane close to the city center that offers street artists a chance to let their creativity flow; visitors a unique experience to immerse themselves onto a plane, and an Instagram worthy spot to close out a memorable trip.

As most locals will tell you, Aguadilla is always a good idea. And just a weekend trip to get away from the hassle of the city will revitalize your mind and body.
